Dear Adalynn,
Sweet Adalynn you are 4 months old. It seems like every month that goes by this time of year there is a special holiday. This month just happened to be Valentine’s Day. You looked precious in the tutu and onesie I made for you.
This month was not a very good one for you. You were sick for most of it and it took three trips to the doctor’s office to get you well. The first two times you had nothing wrong other than a cough you couldn’t shake. I was worried that it would turn into pneumonia though and wanted you checked. The third time (all of these were within a week of each other) you’d developed an ear infection and RSV. Within two days on the antibiotics, I had my sweet smiley baby girl back. Oh how I’d missed you, sweet girl. You’ve been talking and cooing ever since.
I think you are hard wired into my sleeping schedule. You can sense when I leave the room, I’m certain of it. If I wake to pee, you wake to eat. If I wake to get up for the day, you do too. It’s not always convenient, but it is always sweet.
This month you’ve mastered control of your arms and have discovered your little tootsies. Sometimes you even eat your toes. You’ve slowly learned that when you suck your thumb, your other fingers need to stay away from your eyes or else you will scream bloody murder. If we put you down, your thumb goes straight into your mouth. It is the cutest thing ever. I was a thumb sucker and I love, love, love that you are as well!
You are still a good sleeper, generally. There have been a few nights where I had to tell your dad to come take you because I just needed sleep. While you were sick, you wanted to be held all night long, and *gasp* I co-slept those night. Those nights I was cold because I didn’t allow blankets near you. The things we do for those we love. :) You have been a much better sleeper since you are feeling better and I’m relieved. I often wonder how I did it with your brother, he who didn’t sleep through the night until he was two. Ha! You are still nursing exclusively while with momma and bottled milk while away. Momma developed mastitis and a clogged duct this month since you’ve been sick and it was not fun at all. We have made it 4 months though, so I’m determined to stick it out for 8 more. I can’t imagine doing it any other way. I just love it, and I think you do too.
You got to play in your rainforest jumper for the first time this month. You are very tall and can already bounce in it. I think you like it, and mommy likes being able to put you in something besides the floor! You can hold your toys in your hands now, too.
This week mommy and Kael were eating watermelon, and you were in my arms, staring intently on that pink deliciousness. So I took a piece and let you suck on it. Your reaction was much like a child’s when they get to taste a lemon for the first time. Your mouth puckered and you shook your head. It was pretty cute. That was your first taste of anything.
You have a tooth. It still has not broken the surface, but the white spots are clearly visible and your hands do not leave your mouth.
You have started laughing and it’s so sweet! You love dancing and bouncing in our arms during our dance parties. You really like ACDC!
I love you baby girl.
Mommy
